Unfortunately due to the continuing COVID restrictions the Thame Angling Club AGM has been cancelled for this year. In these exceptional circumstances the committee have proposed that the Club continue its present arrangements for the 2021/22 season.
The main proposals are as follows:
1. The club will continue in the present format and meetings will only be held once COVID restrictions are gone and it is safe 2. Incumbent committee members have all indicated that they are happy to continue in their present positions and will do so. Note that for a period the position of Treasurer will be held by Robin Blane. We look forward to seeing Ian Horrocks back again very soon and “fighting fit”. 3. Permit and Day Ticket prices will remain as per the 2020/21 season 4. The Club will continue to use Nuneham Courtney waters but further liaison on issues such as parking will be carried out with the managing agent when possible 5. Accounts will be made available for audit and inspection 6. The Club will retain the current waters and, subject to landowner’s consent, will continue to fish them 7. The Club will continue and maintain the Club’s Website, Instagram and Facebook accounts
It will be assumed that these proposals are deemed acceptable to the membership and will be adopted as passed unless there are any objections or counter proposals.
Despite the changing restrictions throughout the last year the club continues to thrive. Membership has increased and now stands at 224 which includes 50 Juniors. Fish catches have been good with some excellent, chub, pike and roach being caught. Landowners are happy for the club to continue fishing with the understanding that club members continue to act sensibly and do not damage or litter the river banks. Unfortunately it has not been possible to fish matches but the club are hopefully that, as COVID restrictions ease, matches can start up again. Members will be informed once this becomes possible.
The club is in a sound position financially, helped by grants obtained from the District Council and from Waitrose. These monies will be used for the new fish refuge and for maintenance and repair of platforms.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee members for their sterling work throughout the year. In particular, thanks to the committee members and volunteers who help maintain the river, access and fishing platforms, whose contribution helps what makes our Club such a great one.
I wish you all a safe and healthy year with a hope that you all have a successful fishing season.
Barry Mullen Chairman Thame Angling Club
