Nearly there……

The new season is nearly here and,of course, it’s going to rain for most of the week. However, we do need the water and it might just liven the river up a bit.

Lead as always by Dave Lyne there has has been a lot of work going on down on the river. We have created new sims, cleared up old ones, cut the streamer weed and repaired fences and stiles. Thanks must go to Dave and all the other members who have squeezed in to their wetsuits and chest waders to keep the river in such good condition.

We have also strimmed the bank down on our new stretch of the Thames at Nuneham Courtenay and are looking forward to fishing there and finding out what might be lurking in the depths. Please remember that if you would like to fish there it is essential that you use the booking system which is explained in the sheet that you receive with your permit.

Christmas Chub

Dave Lyne and Ian Horrocks had a few hours on the river on Christmas Eve (Time off for good behaviour?)

Dave was catching small fish fish all morning from various pegs in the Prebendal field and Ian had four chub – three around a pound and a half each and then this one from peg 52.  5lb 30z and in super winter condition.

Dave went back for a couple of hours on Boxing Day and had another one off peg 48.  4lb 3oz.

Last work party and next Open match on Sunday September 17th

Good morning everyone.

Our latest work party was again well supported and successful. We managed to trim all the trees we needed out of anglers’ way below the Esso garage with the help of our new work boat, courtesy of the Thames Water pollution fine!

Ian skippered for the morning and Robin was his mate above deck. Baring a couple of near capsizes when nature called, all went off without major incident, so it’s a massive Thanks to all those who attended. These mornings are always productive and are an essential part of keeping our swims open, so if anglers help put a little back we can all keep fishing the Thame.

Also just to remind everyone of this Sunday September 17th is our next open. As usual all water is closed.

Draw at 7.30am in Priest End, near the church in Thame, fish 8.30 til 1.30. £5 pools £3 peg fee and all anglers are welcome to join us.

Please book in with myself 01844 761185 eves, or with Ian 07821 400435.

AUGUST 20TH OPEN RESULT

Hi everyone,

The river fished hard today for our latest open. There were 25 of us taking part. A very good turnout and I’d like to thank all who attended. The level has been rising and falling too steeply without a gradual rise or descent with a settled level for more than a day. The fish don’t like it!

Anyway here’s the scores on the doors down to half way.

1st place Joe Gleed on peg 48a. Joe had 4lb 12oz of mainly Dace, Roach and small Perch. Well done Joe a good days fishing.
2nd place Dave Head on peg 62, with 4lb 6oz.
3rd Lester Backshall peg 52 3lb 9oz. I owe Lester his £25.
4th Geoff Mace peg 65 3lb exactly. Just missed out on payout. Unlucky Geoff.
5th place Jeff Bond. peg 40 2lb 7oz. Jeff had worked hard for a net of smaller Dace and Roach. With some small Perch.
6th Dave Wollington on peg 34. 2lb 6oz.
7th Lucky Ian Horrocks on peg 50 with 2lb 4oz, Ian skanked the largest individual fish of the day a lucky cast into nowhere for a 1lb 1/2 Perch.
8th place Richard Martin peg 47 with 2lb 3 oz 8dr.
9th place Ted Budd peg 54 with 2lb 3oz
10th Richard Cantwell peg 61 1lb 13oz
11th Dave Lyne peg 42 1lb 12oz 8dr
12th place Tony Clemson peg 35 1lb 12oz.

A tough match for all of us, but interestingly the top 3 weights came from swims I had cleared weed from on Thursday, perhaps encouraging fish into staying where food had been stirred up.

Looks easy doesn’t it, come and join us on the next match because all it takes is one 4lb Chub and some bits and you’ve won!

All the best for now. Regards Dave
