Unfortunately due to the continuing COVID restrictions the Thame Angling Club AGM has been cancelled for this year. In these exceptional circumstances the committee have proposed that the Club continue its present arrangements for the 2021/22 season.
The main proposals are as follows:
1. The club will continue in the present format and meetings will only be held once COVID restrictions are gone and it is safe 2. Incumbent committee members have all indicated that they are happy to continue in their present positions and will do so. Note that for a period the position of Treasurer will be held by Robin Blane. We look forward to seeing Ian Horrocks back again very soon and “fighting fit”. 3. Permit and Day Ticket prices will remain as per the 2020/21 season 4. The Club will continue to use Nuneham Courtney waters but further liaison on issues such as parking will be carried out with the managing agent when possible 5. Accounts will be made available for audit and inspection 6. The Club will retain the current waters and, subject to landowner’s consent, will continue to fish them 7. The Club will continue and maintain the Club’s Website, Instagram and Facebook accounts
It will be assumed that these proposals are deemed acceptable to the membership and will be adopted as passed unless there are any objections or counter proposals.
Despite the changing restrictions throughout the last year the club continues to thrive. Membership has increased and now stands at 224 which includes 50 Juniors. Fish catches have been good with some excellent, chub, pike and roach being caught. Landowners are happy for the club to continue fishing with the understanding that club members continue to act sensibly and do not damage or litter the river banks. Unfortunately it has not been possible to fish matches but the club are hopefully that, as COVID restrictions ease, matches can start up again. Members will be informed once this becomes possible.
The club is in a sound position financially, helped by grants obtained from the District Council and from Waitrose. These monies will be used for the new fish refuge and for maintenance and repair of platforms.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee members for their sterling work throughout the year. In particular, thanks to the committee members and volunteers who help maintain the river, access and fishing platforms, whose contribution helps what makes our Club such a great one.
I wish you all a safe and healthy year with a hope that you all have a successful fishing season.
Barry Mullen Chairman Thame Angling Club
Following yesterdays post – there has been a change in the guidelines regarding fishing during the latest lockdown.
It is now ok to go fishing within certain rules. Do not travel outside your local area (no one has actually defined this yet) Do not fish with more than one other person. Respect social distancing.
Our advice is to use common sense – if a venue looks busy either go somewhere else or go home…….
As of midnight tonight 5th January all Thame Angling Club waters are closed for the lockdown. The Angling Trust are talking to the government and if anything changes we will let you know.
Keep checking here or follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
As you know, the government has now confirmed the lockdown with immediate effect.
I have copied some of the information from the Angling Trust below and you can view the whole thing by going to their website – wwwanglingtrust.net
“The regulations are clear and you can only leave home to fish with members of your own household, your support bubble or with one other individual. The Rule of Six is now effectively the Rule of Two for most of us. The tightening of the rules on ‘gatherings’ means that match fishing or any other organised fishing event is prohibited by law during lockdown. However, competitive fishing will be able to resume once there is a return to the three tier system of restrictions.“
Please follow these rules and respect social distancing at all times and if part of the river looks busy, please have a look elsewhere.
We have also decided that for the duration of the lockdown we will restrict visits to the Thames at Nuneham Courtenay to two members a day.
If you have any concerns – please contact a committee member.
As from the 13th July membership applications will be accepted again. Please see the membership page for details.
The owner of the field opposite the Esso station (Pegs 34 to 37) has now given us permission to fish in the field. All the current rules regarding the coronavirus apply.
The laundry field (pegs 37a to 47 remains closed
We have had a great response from existing members and a lot of interest from new members all looking forward to the new season which starts on Tuesday.
The committee would like to remind all members of a few important points regarding fishing our club waters this season.
We wish you all a great seasons fishing.
Thame Angling Club committee.

Thame Angling Club – clarification of access rights.
The three fields upstream of the bypass bridge are private and the club only has access to these during the fishing season and members must not enter the fields during the closed season.
By kind permission from Mrs Gibb the Prebendal field is made available for anyone to use for dog walking and exercise. Thame Angling Club only control the fishing in this field.
